void life(void)

In order to clarify to the general public the impacts of open standards for office documents on Communications Networks, Sergio Amadeu (Cásper Líbero College) recorded a chat with me (Jomar Silva) and Deivi Kuhn (SERPRO) to talk about the  currently existing office document standards and their importance.

On the video, that can also be accessed here, we talk about the problem of lack of interoperability between office document formats, ODF and its benefits and also about OpenXML. Seeing that me and Deivi was part of the whole OpenXML evaluation process in Brazil, and also members of the Brazilian delegation at OpenXML’s BRM in Switzerland, we take the opportunity to clarify the episode that became known as “standards war”, involving the evaluation of OpenXML by ISO.

The duration of the video is approximately 50 minutes and one of the reasons that led us to publish it on Google Video is that there it can be completely seen (on YouTube it would be broken on 6 episodes… it would looks like Warner Channel stuff, with seasons and so on… : D ). Moreover, on Google Video you can download the material, already adjusted for iPod and similar.

I want to thank Sergio Amadeu for the opportunity and the team of Cásper who worked in the production of video. I also thank Deivi which managed an way to give us 1 hour on his agenda to record this in Sao Paulo.I’m sorry but the video is in Brazilian Portuguese and if someone wants to subtitle it to English or Spanish, will be welcome.I’m waiting comments (and any questions too).
